Caffeine safety

As an organisation that takes its responsibilities to its customers very seriously, the team at Superfast Energy Gum™ welcome the recent findings by the European Food Standards Agency who stated that, ”400mg of caffeine a day is safe for adults (18-65 years) and that single doses of caffeine up to 200mg do not raise safety concerns for adults even when consumed less than two hours before intense exercise.”

Within the literature review of caffeine and performance, the EFSA acknowledged that: “The majority of experimental studies have investigated the effect of a single dose of caffeine taken prior to exercise, following a period where the subject refrained from caffeine consumption for up to seven days.”

Superfast Energy Gum™ contains 50mg caffeine per piece and our recommended maximum daily serving is not to exceed 2 pieces.

Despite the fact that this same report confirmed daily levels of caffeine intake for pregnant women and children that they considered safe, Superfast Energy Gum™ does not and will not market the product to children and we even go well beyond the basic new EU labelling law, Food Information for Consumers (FIC), which came into play in December 2014  with our on-pack warning, “High caffeine content (2.5g/100g) Not recommended for children, pregnant or breast-feeding women, persons with hypertension or other cardiac disease or persons sensitive to caffeine.”

The EFSA did warn that single doses of 100mg may increase the amount of time it takes to fall asleep and shorten sleeping time in some adults

However the wealth of scientific research suggests that moderate caffeine consumption can be part of a healthy balanced diet and may even confer health benefits for the general adult population.

Use Superfast Energy Gum™ responsibly, and you can safely and confidently Do More®  with a refreshingly tasty sugar-free energy boost.
